Currently iPod Touch 2G supports microphone but with external accessory. With microphone support coming on iPod Touch, it could be used easily with VoIP applications like fring to make calls over Wi-Fi hotspots.

Apple normally refreshes its iPod lineup in September, so its very much possible that we’ll witness the new iPod Touch 3G in September 2009.
